These were not isolated cranks; the same spirit animates elected figures and institutional voices who treat fidelity to the ancient creeds as a capital offense.
The pattern repeats across the West: whenever a defender of the old order falls, the managerial priesthood and its digital chorus celebrate the removal as moral progress. Widdecombe’s offense was never policy detail but her refusal to bend the knee to the new sacraments of autonomy and inversion.
Christendom once bound ruler and ruled under a single confession; the rupture began when the City of Man declared war on that unity at the French Revolution and has continued through every subsequent revolution of the same spirit. The present glee is simply the latest chapter in that long campaign against the Church’s visible presence in public life.
Scripture and the undivided creeds leave no room for neutrality: those who bless the death of the righteous and call it justice place themselves under the same judgment pronounced on the enemies of the household of faith. The left’s reaction is not personal animus alone; it is the logical outworking of a worldview that regards the Catholic conscience as an existential threat to its own sovereignty.
The faithful remnant therefore faces a clarified battlefield. No longer can any shared civic religion be assumed when one side openly rejoices at the grave of a woman whose only crime was remaining loyal to the faith once delivered to the saints.
The time has come for households and parishes to withdraw consent from institutions that treat Christian profession as provocation. Parallel structures of education, mutual aid, and local governance must be built with the same seriousness that the early Church showed under pagan emperors.
Every fresh demonstration of this hatred strips away the remaining illusions. The remnant that refuses to mourn the loss of a common culture it never possessed will be the only force capable of preserving what remains of ordered liberty under God.
