Twenty-seven years after the forecast, the European Monetary Union stands exposed as the fulfillment of the Iron Law of Oligarchy. Power once promised to member nations has consolidated in the hands of unelected commissioners and central bankers who answer to no electorate.
The actors driving this consolidation are the Technocratic Automatons of the European Commission and the European Central Bank. They enforce uniform monetary rules that punish thrift in one nation to subsidize profligacy in another, all while shielding themselves from democratic reversal.
This outcome was latent in the Maastricht architecture itself. The treaty transferred monetary authority from national parliaments to a supranational body whose statutes place price stability above every other political good.
The governing principle violated here is the ancient Christian ordering of authority under law. Scripture and the creeds alike reject the concentration of unchecked power, whether in emperors or in modern managerial priesthoods. The City of Man always tends toward such consolidation; the City of God disperses it through covenant and hierarchy.
The same pattern appeared after the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, when sovereign states emerged to restrain imperial overreach. Today the EU reverses that settlement by reimposing a new imperial structure without a crown.
Nations that surrendered their coinage have surrendered their capacity to order their own households. The result is demographic hollowing, capital flight, and the quiet transfer of real authority to those who never stood for election.
The faithful remnant must therefore treat monetary sovereignty as a non-negotiable article of national independence. Restoration begins with the refusal to accept further transfers of fiscal power to Brussels and the deliberate rebuilding of national currencies under accountable rule.
Every further step toward deeper union only tightens the oligarchy. The time for half-measures has passed; the choice is between reclaimed self-government and permanent subjection to a managerial elite.
