Only thirty-eight percent of American adults now express great or quite a lot of confidence in higher education. The latest Gallup poll records a continuing slide whose cause the pollsters themselves locate in the public perception that universities teach a political agenda rather than transmit knowledge.
Departments across the nation have completed the purge of Republican, conservative, and libertarian scholars. At the same time, faculty bodies openly repudiate the long-standing rule of institutional neutrality, insisting instead that the university must serve as an instrument of social transformation. This generation of administrators and professors has thereby forfeited both public trust and financial viability, with colleges closing at an accelerating rate.
The present decay traces its line to the medieval foundations of the Western university. Those institutions arose under the patronage of the Church and the crown as ordered communities devoted to the discovery of truth under the governance of the Word. They survived the Reformation, the Enlightenment, and the rise of the modern nation-state precisely because they preserved a space set apart from immediate political combat.
The Managerial Priesthood that now rules the academy has broken that covenant. By substituting ideological conformity for the free contest of ideas, it has transformed the university into an extension of the City of Man, where truth is manufactured rather than received and where the pursuit of wisdom yields to the enforcement of approved opinions.
Scripture and the undivided Church alike condemn the falsification of weights and measures. When the measure of truth itself is falsified, the entire edifice of higher learning loses its claim upon the conscience of a people formed by the creeds and the Reformation.
The financial consequences follow as night follows day. Families withdraw their sons and daughters; donors withhold their gifts; states reduce their subsidies. The institutions that once crowned the educational order of Christendom now consume their own capital in the service of a transient political cult.
The Faithful Remnant must therefore act. They must withdraw their children from these captured precincts, redirect their resources toward new institutions ordered by the old standards, and refuse any further tribute to an academy that has chosen faction over truth.
Only by such deliberate separation can the inheritance of ordered learning be preserved for the generations that follow.
