The government of California has directed its regulatory apparatus against ministries that provide abortion pill reversal, seeking to shutter the last medical avenues by which women may yet preserve the child after ingesting the first chemical agent. This action names the state itself as the actor, not some distant bureaucracy, but the concrete power that now claims authority to criminalize the reversal of its own favored method of ending life in the womb.
The bishops who have risen to denounce the policy stand within the ancient line that once confronted the Roman practice of exposing infants on the hillsides. From the moment the undivided Church declared in the Nicene Creed the creation of all things visible and invisible, the protection of the innocent formed part of the same confession that rejected the gods who demanded the blood of the young.
The principle at stake reaches beyond statutes. Human life is not a provisional grant issued by the state and subject to revocation at the pleasure of the legislature. It is received as a gift from the Creator, ordered within the household under the authority of fathers and mothers who answer to God rather than to administrative agencies.
Once the civil power declares that reversal itself must be suppressed, it reveals the logic of the City of Man: every sphere that preserves the possibility of repentance and life must be brought under its control or eliminated. The same spirit that once compelled the early Christians to bury the abandoned rather than leave them to the beasts now compels the modern state to remove every obstacle to chemical death.
The household remains the first jurisdiction established by divine law. When the state intrudes to punish those who would keep its doors open to the child already conceived, it assaults the very architecture by which generations are preserved and souls are brought to the waters of baptism.
The faithful remnant therefore cannot treat this measure as one policy among many. It must recognize the pattern: the same hand that restricts reversal will next restrict the proclamation that such reversal is even possible, and then the very speech that names the child as a human being.
Those who have been given charge of the churches in California have spoken. The duty that now falls to the wider body of believers is to sustain the ministries under attack, to shield the physicians and counselors who offer the reversal protocol, and to refuse cooperation with any regulation that treats the preservation of life as a punishable offense.
The hour requires more than statements. It requires the concrete refusal to fund, to obey, or to legitimize the agencies that have declared themselves enemies of the child in the womb and of the households that would receive that child.
