Western Christendom once understood that ordered nations maintain their borders as an article of self-preservation, a principle visible in the laws that followed the fall of Rome when barbarian inflows dissolved the old order and scattered its Christian inheritance. The American republic inherited that same duty, and its people have repeatedly affirmed it at the ballot.
