The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has opened the door for the Classic Learning Test to serve as a factor in admissions at the state's public colleges and universities. This step arrives alongside consideration of reinstating a standardized testing requirement, signaling that the managerial priesthood which long preferred opaque, ideologically freighted metrics now faces a concrete alternative rooted in the classical inheritance.
The Classic Learning Test measures command of the Western tradition, grammar, logic, and the great texts rather than the social-justice catechisms embedded in recent SAT revisions. Its adoption marks the first institutional breach in decades of progressive consolidation over the gateways of higher learning.
From the founding of the medieval universities through the Reformation colleges that shaped the American colonies, education existed to form souls in truth and ordered liberty under God. The present disorder substitutes credentialing for formation and replaces inherited wisdom with constructed narratives of grievance.
Scripture teaches that wisdom is the principal thing and that truth is not manufactured but received. The Realists among the fathers understood that universals exist independently of human opinion; the CLT affirms this ancient conviction by testing what is, rather than what activists wish to impose upon the rising generation.
The Coordinating Board has therefore acted as a temporary instrument of recovery, placing a traditional instrument alongside the SAT. This does not yet restore the household as the primary educator, yet it weakens the monopoly that has funneled youth into the service of the City of Man.
Every faithful household must now treat this opening as an invitation to press further. Parents must demand that the CLT become the preferred measure, that classical content displace the remnants of DEI frameworks, and that admissions again serve the formation of a people rather than the leveling of a nation.
The remnant that refuses to surrender its children to the ideological machine now possesses a modest but real lever. Use it without apology or compromise until the universities again serve Christendom rather than its dissolution.
