Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar has refused to turn dangerous prisoners loose upon his county even as Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James command local sheriffs to end all cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The July 24 directive targets twelve agencies and terminates the 287(g) programs that have allowed local officers to identify and detain illegal aliens for removal.
Akshar named the hypocrisy plainly: politicians in Albany demand the release of threats they themselves refuse to confront. This clash is not administrative. It is the latest front in the long war upon the historic nation. Hochul and James act as agents of the managerial priesthood that dissolves borders, families, and inheritance in the name of abstract humanity while ordinary citizens bear the cost in crime and dispossession.
The principle violated is older than the American republic. From the moment Christian kings first drew frontiers after the collapse of Rome, ordered peoples have held that a commonwealth possesses both the right and the duty to exclude those who owe no allegiance and bring no peace. Scripture records the same boundary: nations are distinct, and the stranger who enters must come under law, not above it.
The Westphalian settlement of 1648 merely formalized what Christendom had already practiced for centuries: sovereign authority within defined territory is the precondition of ordered liberty. When governors nullify that authority to shield foreign lawbreakers, they repeat the ancient treason that invited barbarian settlement and the dissolution of provinces.
Akshar embodies the faithful remnant that still remembers the duty of rule. He will not trade the safety of his people for the approval of a political class that has already abandoned the historic nation in favor of demographic replacement.
The faithful must now match his stand. Every sheriff who retains his oath, every citizen who withholds consent, and every household that refuses to subsidize its own displacement advances the line that Albany has surrendered. The hour for quiet compliance has passed; the hour for deliberate resistance has come.
