Anthony Fauci appeared before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and met pointed questions with repeated invocations of the Fifth Amendment. The act placed the architect of national lockdown policy and the gain-of-function research apparatus beyond the reach of elected representatives who sought to examine the exercise of emergency powers during the pandemic years.
This maneuver does not stand as an isolated legal tactic. It reveals the deeper logic of the administrative state that rose after the Progressive Era and consolidated power through the New Deal and subsequent expansions of federal agencies. That structure claims authority to rule without the consent of the governed or the scrutiny of Congress, operating as a self-perpetuating managerial priesthood.
Scripture and the Western constitutional tradition both condemn such unaccountable rule. The prophets denounced rulers who hid their deeds in darkness, while the American founders, drawing on Magna Carta and the common law inheritance, erected separation of powers precisely to prevent any branch or agency from escaping the judgment of the people and the law.
The doctrines of grace and the sovereignty of God further expose the pretension. No human institution may claim the omniscience or immunity that the administrative apparatus now asserts when its officials refuse to render an account. Such claims invert the created order in which every authority remains under the judgment of the Most High and the limited powers granted by the people.
By shielding its actions behind the Fifth, the administrative priesthood admits that its methods during the COVID years cannot withstand open examination. The same order that compelled citizens to submit to experimental measures and economic ruin now protects its own from equivalent examination.
The faithful remnant therefore faces a clear duty. Citizens must demand that Congress dismantle the agencies that have accumulated power without constitutional warrant and restore governance to elected bodies accountable at the ballot box. Parallel institutions in medicine, education, and local governance must be strengthened to render the central apparatus irrelevant.
The present evasion marks another chapter in the long contest between ordered liberty under law and the City of Man that seeks to rule without limit. The outcome will be decided by whether the American people reclaim the authority they once delegated or permit the administrative priesthood to complete its insulation from every check.
