The newest Catholic college in the South has marked its second year by attaining formal academic recognition and enrollment growth. Its founders have refused the standard curriculum of the captured universities and have instead ordered every course toward the formation of souls capable of answering Leon Bloy’s stark judgment that the only tragedy is failure to become a saint.
This decision occurs at the precise moment when the older institutions have completed their transformation into instruments of the Technocratic Automaton. What once transmitted the deposit of faith and the Western inheritance now trains students to dismantle household, nation, and creed under the banner of perpetual revolution.
The governing principle remains unchanged since the undivided Church set forth the creeds and the medieval universities first arose under papal and royal charter. Education exists to conform the intellect and will to divine reality, not to manufacture compliant functionaries for the earthly city.
Scripture and the Augustinian tradition locate true wisdom in the fear of the Lord and the restless orientation of the soul toward its Creator. Every subject therefore serves the single end of holiness, whether pursued through rigorous theology or the natural disciplines that reveal the order of creation.
The new college stands in direct succession to those earlier acts of recovery: the founding of the University of Paris, the Oxford reforms under Wycliffe’s influence, and the Protestant academies that preserved learning amid the collapse of the old scholastic order. Each generation that refuses to surrender the mind to the spirit of the age repeats the same pattern of withdrawal and reconstruction.
By contrast, the Managerial Priesthood that now controls most campuses measures success by diversity metrics, research grants, and ideological conformity. Its graduates emerge unequipped for any vocation that requires fidelity to objective truth or ordered liberty.
The necessary consequence follows without remainder. Where the established universities have become engines of dispossession, parallel institutions must be erected and sustained by the remnant that still confesses the ancient creeds and the doctrines of grace.
Parents, pastors, and patrons therefore bear the immediate duty to locate their children and their resources within these new houses of formation. To do otherwise is to consent to the continued spiritual and intellectual disinheritance of the coming generation.
